All members of this community, whether students, faculty, administrators or staff, have the obligation to uphold the high standards of academic integrity and professional responsibility which form the ethical pillars of BI Norwegian Business School.

 

Academic Integrity

BI Norwegian Business School is designed to ensure that the principles of academic honesty and integrity are upheld. All students are expected to adhere to this code. BI Norwegian Business School does not tolerate academic dishonesty. All acts of academic dishonesty will be dealt with in accordance with the provisions of this code.

 

Honour Code Executive MBA
 

Article I: Purpose

The Honour Code for the Master of Business administration represents a formal agreement based on mutual trust between the student body and the members of the faculty. A student's personal integrity is presumed to be sufficient assurance that in academic matters one does one's own work without unauthorized help from any other source. The Honour Code for the Master of Business Administration prohibits actions deemed as breaches of the mutual trust for which the Honour system stands. It is the duty of the faculty and administrative personnel associated with MBA to uphold the principles of the Honour Code.

Article II: Jurisdiction

The Honour Constitution shall have jurisdiction over all students participating in the part-time MBA Programme.

Article III: Honour Constitution Commitment

Each student shall acknowledge his or her acceptance and support of the Honour system. Every student who is enrolled in MBA will be required to sign the Study Contract in which the student commit her/himself to the Honour Constitution Pledge before enrolment or participation in school activities. The Honour Constitution Pledge shall be as follows:

I acknowledge that I have read the Honour Constitution for the MBA Programme at the BI Norwegian Business School  and I hereby pledge my support and agree to be bound by provisions and principles therein stated. I understand my responsibilities as a student and realize that a plea of ignorance of the Honour Constitution is not a defence to any charge brought against me. I further understand that I am required to report all known and suspected violations of the Honour Constitution to a member of the MBA Administration.

Article IV: Violations of the Honour Constitution

The following actions are considered violations of the Honour Constitution:

1.
Aiding or receiving unauthorized assistance of any form, including the use of unauthorized aids, copying from another student's work, soliciting and/or receiving unauthorized aid orally or in writing, giving unauthorized aid, or similar actions contrary to the principles of academic honesty.

2.
Plagiarism on an assigned paper, theme report, or other material submitted to meet course requirements. In general, plagiarism is defined as incorporating into one's own work the work of another without indicating the source. Plagiarism is copying or paraphrasing an author and claiming the work as one's own by not properly crediting the source. Plagiarism is not the accidental deletion of a footnote when it should be obvious to the professor that the student has, in general, properly credited the author and thus preserved academic honesty.  

3.
Failure to report a known or suspected violation of the MBA Honour Code in the manner prescribed. 

4.
Any action designed to deceive a member of the Faculty or a fellow student regarding principles contained in the Honour Code, as for example, securing an answer to a problem for one course from a faculty member in another course, when such assistance has not been authorized.

5.
Use of texts or papers prepared by commercial or non-commercial agents and submitted by a student as his or her own.

6.
Submission of work prepared for another course without the specific prior authorization of the instructors in both courses.

7.
Falsification of results of study or research.

8.
Providing false information to a member of the Faculty or MBA Administration in either verbal or written form.

Through this code, BI community affirms the importance of academic honesty, respect for other community members, and the expectation that participants will conduct themselves in accordance with the highest standards of professionalism.

In addition, the following community standards apply to activities during your participation in the Executive MBA programme, whether on-campus or off-campus (international modules and company visits).

Respect and tolerance

As a member of a diverse academic community, and in all aspects of your relationship with BI, other participants, faculty and administrators, you should conduct yourself so as to maintain an environment of respect and tolerance for all individuals.

Harassment

Under no circumstances will you engage in the harassment of a fellow participant, faculty member, administrator, or other member of the BI community.

 

Harassment can take the form of:

-Persistent, intentional degradation, intimidation, or abuse of another person.

-Conduct of an offensive, demeaning, intimidating or hostile nature based on race, colour, ethnic or national origin, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age or disability;

-Verbal abuse, threats of violence, persistent and unwanted phone calls or emails, or use of sexually degrading language.

Respect for Property

You should respect the property of others, as well as the buildings, furniture, equipment, educational materials, and other installations of BI.

Behaviour and Reputation

As a member of BI community you represent the institution and the high standards of conduct it lives to the external community. You should therefore refrain from any behaviour which does not reflect the high standards expected in the school and which may cause detriment to the reputation and good name of BI and its students. This includes the consumption of alcohol or other drugs during teaching hours and company visits, or acts of willful damage to persons or property.
