Practical information for all new PhD candidates at BI Norwegian Business School.
Visas for PhD candidates who have been accepted into the programme
EU/EEA/EFTA Citizens: No visa is required prior to arrival. Candidates with funding through BI or NFR can contact the HR departement at BI for assistance. However, if you are to be employed by BI, you must apply for a resident's permit as soon as possible, in order to be eligible for a Norwegian personal identification number. This number is required to open a bank account. Candidates with other funding should apply for a residence permit at the international office of the local police station within three months of arrival in Norway.
Non-EU Citizens should apply for a visa in their home country prior to coming to Norway. A tourist visa is not acceptable. You can also contact the HR departement (firstname.lastname@example.org) at BI if you have further questions about your particular situation. Once the visa is stamped at the police station, you may then apply for a Norwegian personal identification number.
Semester Registration and Fee/ Tuition Fee
PhD candidates do not have to pay tuition fees at BI for doctoral courses.
Identity (ID) card
