Workload of the educational part of the programme
The courses/offerings must have a specification of workload, and the total workload of the training component of the programme must correspond with the applicable curriculum. The basis is that one ECTS according to the Bologna Declaration stands for around 20- 25 working hours for the doctoral candidate.
Student workload in ECTS consists of the estimated time required for all planned learning activities such as attending lectures, seminars, independent and private study, preparation of projects and examinations.
Credits in ECTS can only be obtained after successful completion of the work required and appropriate assessment of the learning outcomes achieved. Learning outcomes are sets of competences, expressing what the student will know, understand or be able to do after the completion of a process of learning.
Reading Courses
Should you have papers that you are wanting to submit for a reading course, you need to speak to your supervisor about this. Your supervisor needs to agree that your paper should qualify as a reading course. You may then submit your paper via e-mail to phd@bi.no (with your supervisor as CC). Your paper will be graded pass/fail. It will show on your final certificate and transcript of record as "Reading Course".
Course Registration
You are responsible for registering for courses. The course component of the doctoral programme consists of 60 ECTS. Your doctoral dissertation will not be sent to the Evaluation Committee until you have completed 60 ECTS. To register for courses, go to Course Registration
