You can complain about grades and demand a reassessment of grades given for all written examinations.

How to appeal against examination results

Fill out the form appeal against examination results.
The form must be sent by email to klagesensur@bi.no

Appeal against examination results are "blind".
That means that the new examiners will get the examination question paper, examination guidelines, grade average etc. The will not know your grade or examiners explanation of the grade.

NB Transcript of grades/ diploma and reassessment

If you have appealed against a grade, you will not receive your diploma or a transcript of grades, whilst the appeal is pending.

Complaining about a part of the process evaluation

When appealing for a reassessment of written examination elements in a process evaluation, the course tutor will be sent the outcome of the appeal for a reassessment, and then make a new complete assessment of the student based on new grading of the particular element of the examination

Complaining about a group examination

In a group examination all group participants must sign the form requesting a reassessment of the grade, the appeal will be dismissed if not all of the participants have signed the form.

The processing of an appeal for a reassessment of grades is comprehensive and time-consuming. Hence, students who choose to appeal for a reassessment of examination grades are encouraged to submit the form as soon as possible after the examination grades have been published/the justification of grade has been received.

Complaining about multiple-choice examinations

When requesting a reassessment of grades given in a multiple-choice examination, the candidate’s answer paper will be checked again against the answers. The result of this control will be communicated in writing along with a possible new and final grade, with reference to the Regulations relating to Admissions, Studies and Examinations for BI Norwegian Business School, Section 5-12 Specific rules for multiple-choice examinations.

What can you not appeal against?

Results from verbal examinations and class presentations can not be appealed against, nor part evaluations in a process containing verbal elements.

Deadline for requesting a reassessment of examination grades

At the latest 3 weeks after the examination results of that particular examination have been published (you will find the date of publication by going to your personal page at @BI, and choose “examination” in the menu on the left).

The deadline does not apply to:
Students who have received or are awaiting an justification of grade.

In these cases the student(s) must submit a request for a reassessment of the examination grade within three weeks from when the student has been informed of the examiner’s justification (provided that the application for a justification of the grade has been submitted within the given deadlines).

The result of a request for a reassessment of examination grades will be made available on your personal page at @BI - under "Examination" in the menu on the left. The students will be informed via their @BI mailbox (not e-mail!) once the result is ready.

NB! A risk of lower examination grades

Please be aware that a request for a reassessment of the examination grades can lead to lower grades. The grade resulting from a reassessment is final and can not be appealed against, but can become subject to a complaint of actual mistakes, with reference to the Regulations relating to Admissions, Studies and Examinations at BI Norwegian Business School, Section 5-14 Formal mistakes in examinations.

The deadline for requesting a reassessment of examination grades is after the deadline for registering for a new examination.
If the result of a request for a reassessment of examination grades has not been received before the deadline of registering for a new examination in the following semester (1. October / 1. March), the student is asked to register for the examination on the course of which he or she is waiting for the result of the request.

There will be an opportunity to withdraw from this examination again after the deadline (without this counting as an examination attempt), if the result of the request for a reassessment of the examination grade makes it superfluous for the student to re-sit the examination.

With reference to the Regulations relating to Admissions, Studies and Examinations for BI Norwegian Business School, Section 5-13 b) Grounds for and appeals against examination grading.
